(Left) My
father, Aziz Mahmoud Radwan was the son of Fatima Hanem Lutfi
& Mahmoud Hassan Radwan whose father was Hassan Bey Radwan,
the first speaker of the newly formed Egyptian Parliament.
(Below) My mother, Mary Magson was the daughter of Horace Magson from Darlington in the North West of England and Nellie Curry whose family came from Tralee, in Ireland. I was born Hassan Mahmoud Radwan, on May 12th 1959 in the Suffolk village of Coddenham, near Ipswich, England.

I suppose I should thank Gamal Abdul Nasser for the fact that I was born in this tiny English village in the heart of the Suffolk countryside. He along with other Egyptian officers ousted the monarchy in Egypt and the British influence along with it. The British government then relocated many Anglo-Egyptian families to England and gave us an old Tudor house that is now protected by the National Trust. Not that I remember anything of it. Although my mother delights in telling me that they had no running water and had to use an external well! We moved to London where my father had got a job as a teacher. I was 6th in a family of 9! Beginning with the eldest, their names are; Jehan, Kamelia, Suzanne, Evette, Marianne, me, Ashruf (alias Andy Blade), Lutfi and finally Louise.

My father was a Muslim and my mother from a Christian (Methodist) family, but in all honesty neither of them were 'religious' although they both believed in God and did their best to give us a good moral upbringing. I myself did not practise Islam until the age of about 20 when events led me to search for a purpose and meaning to life lead me to reflect on Islam. I studied Arabic and Islamic History at London University (SOAS) and graduated with a 1st Class Honours Degree in 1984. After travelling to Egypt and Morocco I returned to England and worked in the Civil Srvice for 3 years. In 1988 I went to study at the Roehampton Institute (Froebel College) where I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I have lived and worked as a School Teacher in the London Borough of Brent since 1989 and currently teach at Islamia Primary School founded by Yusuf Islam. I have 4 children, Yaseen, Marwa, Ibrahim & Safa. My mission in life is to serve God by bringing up my family as best I can, doing good to others and striving hard to spread a little Love, Peace and Toleration in the world!
